During in-clinic food challenges, we have a number of “food vehicles” we use to mask allergens in foods your children will enjoy eating. For example, we are able to grind various allergens down and mask them in chocolate or apple sauce to ensure the foods are enjoyed. If your child is a particularly picky eater, we may ask you to bring “food vehicles” that will help make challenge foods more appealing to your child.
For your at-home regimen, if your child is a picky eater, it may take some creativity in the kitchen to prepare doses in the most palatable form for your child. We recommend that parents make this a fun and interactive process for their child. You can mask the allergens in yummy treats your child will enjoy such as smoothies, baked goods, chocolate and even applesauce! The new SoCal Food Allergy Studio Kitchen serves as a resource where our TIP families can find quick, easy and tasty recipes for their dosing protocols.
