In this video, Dr. Randhawa, Founder of the Southern California Food Allergy Institute, updates us on the timeline and trends of the virus here in the United States and how we have handled the virus thus far. The focus of this week’s update is on the importance of testing going forward. Dr. Randhawa dives deep into what tests are available, how they work and what role they play in treating the virus. He teaches us the difference between PCR tests and antibody tests, and explains what steps are involved in achieving accurate testing. Finally, he explains the steps SoCal Food Allergy and TPIRC are taking to open an outpatient testing center, including what these tests will look like and the quick turnaround of results that will occur. Stay tuned next week, where he will talk about what we all can do going forward, the technology of face masks, and a comprehensive approach to drug treatment if someone should test positive.

A COVID-19 update from SoCal Food Allergy 's Founder Dr. Inderpal Randhawa. As a pulmonologist actively engaged in the care of patients at this time, Dr. Randhawa presents the key challenges to our population and medical approach regarding COVID 19. This week he updates us on statistics, timelines and drug developments, including the positive work being done in response to COVID-19. In addition, he focuses on fear, and how an information imbalance is guiding decisions made by our medical communities, creating a discrepancy in public perception. Finally, he hypothesizes on when this quarantine will end and proposes new approaches to treating COVID-19 via outpatient management, which will be implemented here at TPIRC and SoCal Food Allergy in the near future.
As a followup to the above video on COVID-19, the need to build confidence in how to diagnose and treat COVID is needed now more than ever (see this article). TPIRC and Southern California Food Allergy Institute are building a comprehensive testing approach for COVID to be featured in an upcoming segment. This will be available as part of a large screening process of all 150 employees at our organization. On a daily basis, we will do everything possible to keep our organizations COVID-free. No doubt, this keeps our patients safe. Once more, we will be exploring the opportunity of testing COVID on any of our Southern California Food Allergy Institute patients who are at risk as well as their immediate family members. All in all, society will only feel comfortable re-opening when they know there is a place where accurate testing is available with less than 24 hours of turnaround time. The next step will be designing and treating COVID positive patients in a safe, monitored outpatient setting requiring regular visits until recovery is achieved. Stay tuned!
